We had planned to take a trip out to Liberty Island and Ellis Island yesterday (Thursday). But when we had checked the availability for tickets for the ferry on Wednesday the only available time slot for pre-booking was Friday at noon. Not knowing if it was necessary to pre-book we did it anyway which we discovered was a good thing when we got down to Battery Park (where the ferry goes from)! I don't know if it was the weather (sunny, sunny, sunny) or the day of the week that made it totally insane down by the dock! When we were down there on Tuesday morning it wasn't that many people around going out the islands but on Friday the line up for none pre-booked tickets was at least an hour long!

Since we didn't have to stand in the hour long line we could enjoy our breakfast at our favourite spot in Battery Park were we spent quite a long time on Tuesday taking pictures like this one! |

Since we had pre-booked tickets we were allowed using the Reserved line to the ferry! Lucky us!

No line up for us :) |

During our first ferry ride we mostly enjoyed taking pictures of people taking pictures :) The tallest building in the background is one of the new World Trade Center buildings. |
Our first stop was Liberty Island. Guess what! The Statue of Liberty is being renovated! My usual luck! We were only allowed to look at her from a distance. I don't think I have ever been in a crazier souvenir shop than the one at Liberty Island.

I love leaves! |
We were pretty happy leaving Liberty Island for Ellis Island and the immigration museum. The museum on Ellis island is the Main Building of the former immigration station complex and tells the moving tales of the 12 million immigrants who entered America through the golden door of Ellis Island. Today, the descendants of those immigrants account for almost half of the American people.

We really enjoyed the museum and can really recommend a visit. The exhibitions were really interesting and just being in that building with so much history was awesome! The only disadvantage was being inside when the weather was so nice outside.
Going back to Battery Park with the ferry was like being a cow in a cow flock. I wonder if that's the feeling they wanted us to get, because I guess that was what the immigrants felt like coming to Ellis Island :)

Waiting for the ferry back to Manhattan...at least we had a nice view! |
*If you think some of the pictures look over exposed you're correct, they are :(
