Pouring rain

After getting over the chock of being wrong about the start date for the tour I left the Starbucks I had breakfast (didn't buy a single mug) and headed to the other side of downtown towards Stanley Park.
On the way there I ended up at Canada Place where the large cruise ships dock. There I walked "The Canadian Trail" along the outside of the Canada Place building. It was a pretty neat and newly installed exhibition for what makes Canada what it is today.

The Canadian Trail.

The walkway had all the provinces, territory and important cities/places within each province/territory marked along the path.

Describing the content of the exhibition.

There is a Jazz Festival in Vancouver at the moment. I got to listen to a small portion of it at Canada Place.

One of the cruise ships docked by Canada Place. I took this picture mostly because the ship belonged to the Holland-American Line and I still have a few wage memories from my cruise in the Caribbean with one of their ships when I was about five years old.

I ended up watching passengers boarding one of the other cruise ships for a while because of the security check procedure. First the passenger boarding showed the security staff it's room key that had a barcode that was scanned. Then the security staff member used the barcode reader/computer to take a picture of the passenger. I guess that's the procedure every time the passenger gets on and off the ship.

I continued my walk towards Stanley Park along Coal Harbor on the northern side of downtown. I found a killer whale art installment, some cute house boats and some beautiful flowers along the way!

Killer whale.

Three house boats.

Flowers.

On my walk I decided that this should be the time that I actually will go around all of Stanley Park. Not really knowing how far it would be I thought that renting a bike would be the perfect choice. So I followed the signs towards the park's Information Centre since I was sure there would be a bike rental there. I was wrong! The closest bike rental was a 10 minute walk back into downtown. Since I don't like going back the same way as I just been on I thought about walking after all, but luckily I decided to walk back to the rental place. It turned out to be a good choice since I still wanted to go some other places.

I met my second Swede in Canada for this trip at the rental place. The worked there and had lived in Vancouver for three years now.
I matched the bike rental with a break in the rain, but didn't manage to get all the way around before it started pouring down again! I was pretty wet returning the bike :) I biked the seawall around the park. It's a 8.8 km long path and would have taken me a lot longer to walk than bike.

Picture of the seawall from the Stanley Park map.

My bike with my two garden gnomes, Quatchi and Globe, in front of thr Vancouver sky line.

Trying to take pictures while biking.

Lions Gate Bridge heading over to North Vancouver.

View of the path.

Did Vancouver steal from Copenhagen...or is it a rip off?

Nice looking beaches along Stanley Park.

Biking with the Globe!
After returning the bike I dried up at a Starbucks before walking the main shopping street, Robson, all the way to BC Place Stadium. On my way I passed the Public Library building that works as the FBI headquarters in the parallel universe of the TV-show Fringe that is filmed in Vancouver.

Public Library aka FBI headquarters.
I walked over the Cambie Bridge to fulfill the second mission I drawn up for the day (first mission Stanley Park, third mission sushi for dinner) a visit to the Mountain Equipment co-op store. I didn't need to buy anything but ended up with a rain protection cover for my backpack as well as a tiny thermometer that you can put on a zipper. Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!
