Salt Spring Island, a beautiful island on a beautiful day

Our Tuesday adventure was going to Salt Spring Island for a day. Since the ferry only leaves every two hours we had to wake up early to get to the 9 AM ferry. Since it was a weekday we didn't expect the line up to be so severe as it was but with some luck we made the ferry and didn't have to wait for the 11 AM ferry. Yeah!
The ferry ride to Fulford on Salt Spring Island is about 30 minutes long and gives you a beautiful view of he archipelago and of Megan :)

Victoria has one of three Canadian Naval Bases, I got to the one of their boats!
We had a yummy and filling breakfast down in the harbour. I wanted to order three plates of the english style breakfast but Jaimie and Megan convinced me to just order two and share them. I'm glad we only went for two since my share it filled me up for pretty much eight hours. My favourite was the maple sausage!

Salt Spring Island is known for local and organic produce and a lot of art studios (some call it a hippy-island). The Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet had an article a few years ago where the island is mentioned

(I don't think I found the right one, but you get a little bit of BC in this one as well). We managed to do a few visits to art studios but focused on taking in the scenery from different locations and trying out the local produce.
Our first stop was Burgoyne Bay. Megan had plans for us to hike Mount Maxwell from there but we ended up not doing that since we weren't really sure about the trails.

I don't really know what's going on here :)
After the bay Megan's car Snowflake managed to take us all the way up to the top of the mountain instead. It's amazing that the beautiful views never seem to end. Most of them are breathtaking! Except taking in the scenery we had a long jump photo shoot up there where we all participated but not at the same time unfortunately.

Megan is awesome at jumping.

On the way back down we stopped at Maxwell Lake for a swim in a warm lake. Megan wanted to go rope swinging into the lake but the rope was had torn (hopefully over the water and not over land) so she jumped off a pretty high cliff instead.

Can you see Megan hiding in the trees?
Since time flies when you are having fun we didn't continue our drive to the main town on the island, Ganges, but instead draw back towards the harbour where we arrived with the ferry to visit a winery and a place where goat cheese is produced before closing. The wine tasting was okay but the goat cheese tasting was so good! We also stopped by the Monter Lab (one of the art studios) where a woman makes really cute monstery things. I was so close to buy one of her monsters but ended up buying something that I can use, a bat bag with eyes and wings.

Ganges was a cute town. We mostly spent time in the Farmer's Market. I was so excited to find Japanese rise balls there in the triangular shape that need to be opened in a very particular way. I of course had one :)

Me with a Japanese Rise Ball and the instructions to open the plastic cover (I havea film where I open one in Japan on this blog).
Our last stop for the day was Vesuvius Beach up by Ganges. There we only had a breather before heading back to the ferry. We just had time to have some fish and chips at the place we had breakfast before boarding the ferry.

We really had a fantastic day on this laid back island! We loved the car stop signs for picking up hitch-hikers. I hope it's readable (click on the picture and it may be enlarged).

Our day ended with playing Taboo with Megan's room mate, a word game that was a challenge for me. Poor Megan who had to be on my team :) We laughed a lot and that is what it's all about!
